The 6 unofficial rules to respect in a skatepark

No matter what people say, scooters are not viewed well by riders, since many young people don't know the rules of the skatepark. So no, it's nobody's fault - we all want to roll and have the chance to practice a super fun and exciting sport that we love. But we also shouldn't forget that we are sharing the skatepark with riders who are there for the same reasons that we are.

To make things easier, there are certain rules (that you'll learn with experience) that aren't written on skatepark signs, but are just as important - or even more important - for your safety and the safety of other riders.

Here is a list of rules to follow.

RULE #1: SNAKING! (I GO IN FRONT OF EVERYONE!)

This is THE biggest "crime" for young scooter riders. Wait your turn and don't cut in line. No matter your level or your discipline, it is essential to respect the other riders who are also waiting - it's just good manners! ;)

RULE #2: LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE DROPPING IN!

Especially don't drop in and hope that everyone will let you through. Be sure that no one has already left, and then you can land your drop. It's a simple concept that you learn as a child (Mom or Dad: “look both ways before crossing the street” ).

Respect the other riders, be patient, wait your turn and don't forget to look before you move! That makes life easier for everyone! :)

RULE #3: DON'T STAY IN THE LINES!

This is a very important point. If you are new in a skatepark and you don't know the lines, wait on the side for 5 minutes and watch... Observing what the local riders are doing will be the easiest way to understand the lines of the skatepark.

Ne reste pas dans les lignes

RULE #4: DON'T SQUAT ON THE PIPES AND AT THE TOP OF HALF-PIPES!

This is the same principle as the previous rule, but it really deserves an additional rule.

Don't stay seated on a pipe, an obstacle often ridden in the skatepark, or on half-pipes with your scooter next to you waiting to drop in, you can really bother the riders moving in your direction…

RULE #5: NEVER RIDE IN A CIRCLE IN THE SKATEPARK!

It's logical... Avoid riding in a circle at the bottom of a bowl or in the middle of a skatepark, since that cuts all the lines. (fill in?)

RULE #6: RESPECT

We can't say it enough: when freestyle scootering, you need to respect the other riders (whether they are skating or doing BMX) and the skatepark itself. Don't make the skatepark your garbage bin. If you move an obstacle, put it back where it belongs. If you drink a beverage, throw it in the bin - don't just leave it on the ground in the skatepark.

BONUS RULE: WHEN FREESTYLE SCOOTERING, PROTECT YOURSELF!

Freestyle scootering is an extreme sport where you can fall often. So it is crucial that you don't forget your safety and that you wear protective equipment. Besides protecting you effectively, it'll help you feel more at ease as you learn so you'll have way more confidence going into the trick.
